Brand Strategy and
Creative Direction

Good Ideas.
Executed beautifully.

My first love is digital design, but I recognise that a good idea can live anywhere, so the work shown below has spanned the full spectrum of creative services. From big picture, insight-led brand strategy and identity design, to the fine detail of execution; print, broadcast, outdoor and digital.

Unless stated otherwise, all work seen here was completed by the team at Iceberg under my creative direction.

Elevit

When the brand Elevit (the pregnancy multi-vitamin) needed to reach women who were not yet pregnant, we had to look outside the usual channels. So instead of ads, we made entertainment; a podcast series hosted by Anika Moa about the ups and downs of becoming a Mum.

Auckland
Light Rail

To help the Auckland Light Rail team learn about Aucklanders' travel habits, we built a web app that collected travel info and displayed the aggregated data on screen in local neighbourhoods. But not just any screen, a screen that looked like a train. We also did a ton of other advertising and design for Auckland Light Rail but that's another story.

Tainui Group
Holdings

No longer the unpopular corporate arm of New Zealand's second largest iwi, TGH needed the brand to reconnect with their iwi and whakapapa to re-write their story. We crafted a new brand strategy and identity worthy of a business with a billion in assets.

5pm
Beer

In a sea of over-complicated craft beer branding, we decided to strip it back with a refreshingly minimal take on label design.

Freshcatch

Fresh fish from the ocean delivered to your door in 48 hours. That is Freshcatch.

This was end-to-end business creation. Strategy, identity, advertising, user experience and web development. To say that the business logic and UX under the hood of a subscription service is complicated, is a massive understatement. This was long before such things were just a plugin you could buy. Ask me about it one day.

Since merged with Sanford & Sons.

Microsoft
Go Dark

Back when Microsoft was in the mobile phone game, they ran a global competition to come up with a new app. My submission was a finalist among tens of thousands of entries from around the world.

And what was my idea? The ability to turn off calls and notifications for set periods of time. The iPhone added that feature about a year later. Steve Jobs must have been watching ;)

Good
Health

I don't consider myself an ad guy, but I've made lots of ads, and I know what makes a good story. Like this one I created about a couple that don't seem to have much in common.
